Report stuck on "loading" screen

Open summerse opened this issue 4 years ago • 12 comments

Expected behavior: I would expect that a report would appear (as in this example: https://pol.is/5ffcwcaecf https://pol.is/report/r3amn5nnibmyj8wjtvxja )

Actual behavior: However for a new conversation that I recently created, a report is not appearing (see here: https://pol.is/9iju7etmy8 and https://pol.is/report/r4bsktzaccsa8rh4meifw )

To Reproduce: Please list detailed steps to reproduce here.

I should also note that I tried the suggested work-arounds listed in this issue (https://github.com/pol-is/polis/issues/302) and that didn't solve the loading screen problem. Hopefully this is something that can be addressed - thanks!

Hi! Thanks for filing a bug report! How many people have started voting so far? (Should be visible here: https://pol.is/m/9iju7etmy8/stats)

To be clear, the UI doesn't let on about this, but a report won't display (i.e. you'd see those errors) until some threshold of voting participation happens. (I forget exactly how many, but definitely by the time the user-facing visualization starts showing, once a 7th person has voted. Reports might show after just one voter.)

This is a known error. The report is missing a check for missing math results. It could display summary info even if it can't render some of the charts, which won't appear until a minimum threshold of voting has been reached.

I suspect this was either a dup of https://github.com/compdemocracy/polis/issues/302 or an issue with math worker falling over and being MIA :) I think this can be closed, but do speak up if I'm mistaken @summerse!

For future travellers, I've created an explanation here in a community-maintained FAQ: https://hackmd.io/@patcon/conversa-calls/https%3A%2F%2Fhackmd.io%2F%40patcon%2FB1rwrXiu_#Why-does-my-report-page-say-%E2%80%9CLoading%E2%80%A6%E2%80%9D

Per the FAQ mentioned above, just emailed hello, but as a more public note it looks like the math worker is down again -- new reports are stuck at loading.

Sorry for the noise, I forgot to tag @metasoarous in the last comment.

@patcon @metasoarous @colinmegill Hello all, is there anything I can do to assist with restarting the math worker? A polis we started a few weeks ago is now in the thousands of votes and we're still unable to see the reporting out.

willcohen avatar Jun 01 '21 13:06 willcohen

@willcohen I had no idea this one particular conversation was still a problem for you. There have been periodic short periods of down time due to heap memory issues with large conversation, but nothing that shouldn't be taken care of on the span of days. Please shoot me an email with your particular conversation url, and I'll take a look at it.

@metasoarous we're running another conversation and are noticing that the report is now lagging the monitor by about 10k votes -- is it possible the math worker fell over again in the last few days?

willcohen avatar Apr 11 '22 20:04 willcohen

Hey @willcohen; Yes, the math worker is down at the moment, unfortunately. Working to get it back up.

metasoarous avatar Apr 12 '22 20:04 metasoarous

Hey @willcohen; Just wanted to let you know that the worker is back up and running, and your conversation results should be up to date now. Sorry for the delay there. Thanks for letting us know.
