Implement File Transfer

Having DCC File Transfer would be nice. With supported encryption for DCC it would be even better ;-)

It would be great to also add:

  • File selector from the pull down/up menu; typing in the path would be bothersome.
  • Automatic DCC GET from pull down/up menu and a nick selection.

As far as I know, file transfers are not supported by the underlying library (libcommuni).

True, the backend does not (plan to) support DCC.

Sorry to be so blunt, but please don't waste your time with DCC. It's an awful mess. There are several "dialects" of the so called protocol, and various client specific extensions trying to overcome the fundamental inefficiency of the protocol. Add all the problems with NAT/firewalls/ports on top of that.

@jpnurmi So it's a wontfix? I'd say that a patch in this regard is welcome, but I personally have never needed this feature so much as to even think of implementing it.

It's a can of worms, so wontfix sounds reasonable. Even if someone contributed a patch that worked fine with their favorite client (the other end), it probably wouldn't work all that well with other clients.
