Nearby item label: If user's languages not available, show in the item's language if available
- In the user's phone's language(s) as described at #516
- If not available, in the local language of the item, for instance if I am in France then show the French name (or one of the local languages, for multilingual places like Mauritius)
- If not available, in any language available
So, let's say I am a German person in Paris. The app should show the label in German, or in French, or in any other language (for instance Spanish). And show the QID only if no label is available in any language.
This ist very difficult to get right. In countries that have multiple scripts, a user might prefer English second to a language spoken in a neighbour province. I think the best is for power users to be able to give a list of fallback languages. Plus Wikidata (also the world in general) has languages that can't be easily mapped to location.
There is a similar (but location-ignorant) idea in #516.
Can anyone give an update on this one?
Chris.
