Handle non-image documents in gallery

Open tobias47n9e opened this issue 8 years ago • 3 comments

People also upload a lot of documents on Commons that are not images. Currently only the name is shown with a plain background. I think we could either:

  • Remove those documents from the gallery
  • Display an icon or background image for the text, that doesn't look like the app is still loading.

There are few things we can do around this. Here are my suggestions

  1. Remove the non image from the contributions page.
  2. Add a default image which says "This file is not an image"
  3. Add a default image which is not a white screen but has some uniform design.

I would vote for number 2. Or "preview not available".

If this is still an issue, could we build on number 2 and maybe say "This is a PDF", or similar, based on the file extension? "This file is not an image" is a good starter, though.

Thanks,

Chris.
