Detect when media is recorded/taken and prompt uploading to commons.

Open kalpaitch opened this issue 9 years ago • 4 comments

Not being particularly familiar with Android permissions it would be nice if it was possible to either detect when photos are taken, or periodically detect new photos taken and prompt with a notification for these to be uploaded to commons.

Possibly with other filters/features such as only if geolocated near a prominent (Wikidata) location.

Possibly related to push notifications as described - https://github.com/commons-app/apps-android-commons/issues/79

Hi @kalpaitch ,

Yes, I think this is possible with the appropriate server support. It does sound like #79 though. :) Would you be okay if we close this issue to consolidate discussion on the topic there?

Please feel free to work on whatever issues interest you (be it this one or others), and let us know if we can help you get started.

I feel that showing a notification for pictures that do not match the requirements in #79 would be a bit too much. Google asking me to upload pictures of famous things is already creepy enough, asking me to upload any random picture that I take at home would be even creepier.

I can see both sides to this, but I guess one option would be to add it in 'Settings', so the user could either have push suggestions, or not, depending on their stance.

Thanks,

Chris.
