Upload from category
The new browsing feature is the most powerful way to find categories.
Rather than selecting a picture first and then painfully searching for categories, how about easily selecting the category first using the browsing feature, and then selecting the picture?
It won't help if you must tag using several hard-to-find categories, but it is better than nothing, as pictures often have only one hard-to-find (very specific) category and other relatively easy to find categories.
Details of how it would work:
- Open the Commons app
- Tap the
Exploreglobe icon - Tap the search icon at the top
- Type "food"
- You don't have to wait for the spinner to finish, just tap the
Categoriestab - Tap
Food, probably the first result - Optional: Tap
Subcategoriesand recursively search for the subcategory best matching what you had for breakfast - Here there would be a + FAB button in the bottom right that I can click to upload images in that category, the same + button that we can see in the home activity.
- The rest of the upload would be identical, except the chosen category would be pre-selected.
Thinking about how we categorize photos to upload from the app, can we say that this functionality has now been implemented?

@chrisdebian It would be super helpful if you could actually check in the app whether a feature has been implemented or not, or if a bug still exists or not (after reading the issue carefully). Then you can comment on the issue. Thanks! 🙂
