Give Freedom Of Panorama information about picture's country, when uploading
There are countries where one is not allowed to take pictures of public spaces and publish them, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_panorama .
Users should be informed about this copyright issue depending on their current geo location (country) or the geo location of the image they upload.
Good idea!
We should advise people in such countries to upload their panorama pictures to a repository that keeps pictures until they fall into public domain due to old age. But unfortunately I haven't found such a repository yet: https://opendata.stackexchange.com/questions/5407/where-to-upload-media-not-yet-compatible-with-wikimedia-commons-licenses-open
In the upload wizard's "Media Details" step, when the picture has coordinates or if some coordinates were entered via the map button, it would be useful to add a small icon indicating whether the country the picture was taken in has Freedom Of Panorama or not.
It could be as simple as a green/yellow/red/etc "FOP" at the immediate right of the map button. Full list of colors at https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Freedom_of_panorama in the "Situation in different countries" section's map.
Tapping that icon would open a popup saying for instance:
" Some countries protect your right to upload pictures of buildings to Wikimedia, this is called "Freedom of Panorama". It seems that your picture was taken in Portugal, a country for which the FOP status is currently: OK + public interiors Details "
We would need to embed in the app a list of colors and URLs for each country. Localization of the statusses should be taken from the already widely translated wiki page.
I contribute to Panoramax, so that my imagery can be used by OpenStreetMap and other 'open' initiatives. They have a list of image repositories, some just for France, some for worldwide use. When using the app, they have a simple warning, stating that collecting imagery in some countries, may be prohibited. Could we do something similar? From the Legal FAQ page
Thanks,
Chris.

@chrisdebian Would you mind posting a screenshot of this warning?
They have a list of image repositories
Is any of these repositories more permissive than Commons regarding Freedom Of Panorama? More generally, do you know any FoP-permissive repository of freely reusable images?
