Change language name of 'gom' from "Goan Konkani" to "Konkani (Romi)" as it was supposed to be assigned for latin script
Hello everyone,
As we already know, when addition of konkani language to common voice was being discussed, it was concluded to split the language based on the writing script. As visible in pontoon, gom was not meant to be for "Goan Konkani". Rather it was meant for "Konkani in Roman script".
Be aware that language variants are a feature on MCV. So any dialectal differences can be accomodated under the same language code if need be. However multi-orthography for variants is only limited to the sentence and audio dataset; but website UI language does not have such support. Hence why the split was made based on the writing scripts that were requested.
My request is to please change the name of the language (gom) from "Goan Konkani" to either "Konkani (Roman)" or else "Konkani (Romi)" ...doing so would remove the confusion of some people who may also get hurt by script differences when reading "Goan Konkani".
The two dominant scripts of Konkani in Goa are Devanagari and Roman (or Romi as it is colloquially known). Devanagari orthography is considered the official one;
Romi is used in churches and by select weeklies/ magazines and Tiatr (drama) scripts. Source Alt source
While Devanagari is the official writing script taught in all Goan schools, Roman (romi) Konkani is also in use by many people.
After this change, the languages should look like: gom: Konkani (Romi) knn: Konkani (Devanagari)

Wikipedia writes "Romi" in its script-changing tabs for articles written in roman konkani. (gom.wikipedia.org)
