Juki industrial sewing machine repair
We now have a Juki DDL-5550-4
SC-120 controller Type D1CHCS servo drive/Electronics box
The machine won't turn on and shows no signs of power after being plugged in. (It just didn't show any signs of life one morning according to the previous owner). We suspect that something with the driver to be wrong. Hopefully we can just fix it but plan B is a new vdf motor controller.
What needs to be done
- [x] sew a protective hood so it won't get all dusty.
- [x] document the wiring
- [x] afterwards unmount the driver and try to diagnose the problem
- [ ] Readable
- [ ] test (only slowly without oil
- [x] find out what type of oil is needed
- [ ] buy oil
- [ ] refill with oil

Es gibt spezielles Industrienähmaschienen öl. Laut Juki soll "JUKI New Defrix Oil No.1" benutzt werden. Beispielsweise: https://www.ebay.de/itm/181984205523?chn=ps&_ul=DE&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=707-134425-41852-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=181984205523&targetid=2359635454747&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9041998&poi=&campaignid=21693910041&mkgroupid=167460653476&rlsatarget=pla-2359635454747&abcId=10028084&merchantid=112641190&gad_source=4
F5 is blown. I replaced it and tested it. It blew again it was a 1.6a fuse
Thanks to Henrik and Jonah for finding a broken Transitor. We need to buy a replacement and test it.
Henrik also advised to get cleaning brushes and clean the coroded spot on one of the PCBs and reapply a protective UV hardening coat of solderstop
Can you get us a List of what needs to be ordered? If you send us shop links and quantites, we can work on ordering replacement parts (if it's not super expensive, but your post didn't Sound like it)
As usual: please no ebay links 😊
The transistor (2SC3507 MATSUSHITA) is no longer being produced. I could only find listings from a UK ebay seller or china (ebay and aliexpress)
https://www.ebay.de/itm/191909281895 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004146169121.html
So someone would have to buy it privately and donate the part?

What about the cleaning brushes and the hardening coat?
brush: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Cliney-Antistatic-Motherboard-Cleaning-Convenience/dp/B0DGD1QRT8 UV light: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/KieTeiiK-Upgrade-Curing-Purple-Repair/dp/B0CK7RG6XF Soldermask: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Soldering-KGX-900-Printing-Insulation-Protection/dp/B097KB8JW7
It would be cheaper directly from ali and they provide invoices with VAT brush: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000817265551.html soldermask: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008077493554.html UVlight: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005560102189.html https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007646533589.html
Can you order 2 of the transistors? https://nikkoe.com/2sc3507-matsushita-panasonic-1000v-transistor-c3507-uk-company-since1983-68.html
The point with both aliexpress and eBay is that they do not provide correct invoices. eBay has an issue with putting the correct Billing Address on the invoice (even is you enter it correctly while ordering) Aliexpress is also not able to provide correct invoices. "Invoice with VAT" is not enough in this case.
The Brush and UV-light you have proposed from Amazon have a similar issue :-( They are sold from a chinese company. Thus, amazon gives us a hint that we have to manually organize an invoice. This created a mess in the bookkeeping.
So, Unfortunately, we would have to do some research on other sellers for these or similar articles.
Nikkoe does also not allow me to enter a billing address during checkout :( It´s a pain!
I can check, what I can do here, but this will most likely take a while.
https://www.manuels.solutions/resultats_alpha.php?recherche=JUKI%20D1CHCS I fond some manuals but they are rather pricey. So probably not worth it. I asked Juki a while back but haven not heard back from them. Im just hoping we will get her working with the transistor
Die Transistoren sind da und liegen auf der Nähmaschine.
Installed the transistor today. (2SC3507 MATSUSHITA) Good news first, she's got some life in it <3
Logic power is back, controll panels light up, motor spins at full speed after power, after a few seconds it locks in the brakes (controll input is ignored)
A few notes on fusing: F5 ~1.6A Medium-Time delay, DC link fuse, Blown 2SC3507 shorts dc link
Input fuse in the main power switch 4A medium time delay, previous owner had fun before and put unrealistic values in there, so these values are eyballed but should be safe.
Tests were done without belt, according to the Manual of a newer machine the unit is supposed to return the needle to the upper most position, might explain the full power run. Tough the runup seems a bit harsh to me
First test were done with the additional fuse on the 2 prong connnector to the "pre converter, solenoid driver and psu board" disconnected
Reconnecting the additional fuse results in it blowing, someone hacked this before, not shure, first thought that this was the solenoid supply voltage, have to confirm that.
Bad news: Dead aggain, 2nd test with aux fuse at 4A slow blow Resulted in a shorted dc link aggain. (2SC3507 shorted aggain, no further checks done) (Coincidence unclear)
Standby current consumption while working ~0.25A
Further steps: -Understand the circuit of the "pre converter, solenoid driver and psu board"
-get a insulated thermal pad (safety rated since direct pe connection, recommend 600v working voltage, 4kV dielectric strength)
-get a few other transistors!
Conclusion: She might be saveable, additional documentation might be extremely helpful, testing is time intensive
@Johannes09 do we have more transistors?
No, do we need the same transistors again, or do we need different ones? Can you find something for me that I can order from Reichelt or Conrad?
The ones you ordered last time were fine. We already killed one and would like to have extras for Friday.
But I ordered two, so there should still be one left.
Should we start looking at replacing the driver with a modern VFD? Do we have a spare one and can it be programmed to stop in certain positions?
If you you can source a set of Transistors, I would give the Power supply another go. Killed the 2nd one
Ordered 3x BUW1215
