Horta uses ... with one-letter nicks
For example, participant m was called as m... by horta. It should be fixed, but I don't know what's the best way. Replace the whole nick?
We can make those a special case and use ellipsis two times, like this: …m…
Why would it ever use the ellipsis here? What purpose it could perform?
The whole point of shortening the nicks by putting ellipsis in the middle is to avoid highlighting people, right? So I'd argue that it should use ellipsis in this situation.
By the way, is there some kind of check to guard against situations when two nicknames are shortened the same way (like, both "m4n71k0r" and "mixer" turn into "m…")?
Why do we need to guard against such situations?
I still don't understand why it should use ellipsis twice in the single-letter nicknames. That's just stupid.

No, there are no such checks. But the idea is brilliant, I'll file an issue about it.

Isn't $pet ratings output supposed to be readable? If we clash multiple nicks into one shortening, it will hurt readability.

Using two ellipses will make it obvious that this nickname consisted of one letter, distinguishing it from "m…" that we could obtain from shortening "mixer" or "m4n71k0r".

This "feature" helps Tsodingteam's Superiors to hide their PTC flows from unwanted eyes.

Using two ellipses is simply ugly. Why not use the nickname without any ellipses to refer to that nickname? E.g.
<Hugo> $pet rating
<horta hell> H...: 1000
H...: 100
H: 1
<HugeDick> muhaha
<H> oh
<TinyMixer> I'm a tiny mixer

If you don't add ellipses and leave the nickname as it is, the person will be highlighted. Isn't that a bad thing?
She will be highlighted even if I add any number of ellipses.
Ah, silly me… Yes, you're totally right. I take my suggestion back.
Re-check that for the new nickname shortener and probably close the issue.
