editor ctrl-z doesn't undo changes from markdown tools

When editing a post, ctrl-Z undoes typing but not additions from the formatting buttons. I checked one other online editor (Google Docs) to see what it does, and there ctrl-Z does undo formatting from buttons. I haven't done a larger survey to suss out norms.
I'm marking this low priority since none of our formatting is complicated (so you can undo it manually), but I don't want to lose track of it.

One of the main issues is that it prevents undoing before it as well. It's easy to undo the markdown tool itself manually, but doing say, three or four undos in a row isn't too uncommon in my opinion.
