Be more specific in page titles for browser tabs (create post and edit)
https://meta.codidact.com/posts/287742
The title shown in a browser tab is the name of the community plus, sometimes, something more specific -- category name on the category page, question title on a question page, user name on a profile page. However, "post" (aka "ask question") and "edit" don't do this; we just show the community name.
Can we add "edit" for the edit case and the text of the "post" button for the posting page?
Clarification on "the text of the post button":
On Meta, in the Q&A category, there are 3 things that might make sense as the browser tab title:
- "Ask Question" (the text on the button you press to get to the Ask Question page)
- "Save Post in Q&A" (the text on the button you press to save a finished post)
- "New Post in Q&A" (the heading at the top of the page while drafting a new question)
I'm guessing that "post button" means the second of these three?
I just wanted to double check, and to list all 3 as possibilities.
For comparison, the same 3 on Code Golf, in the Challenges category, are:
- "Post Challenge"
- "Save Post in Challenges"
- "New Post in Challenges"
The first button (in both Meta and Code Golf) is shorter and seems to sum up the page purpose without the distraction of detail about what the button does.
I meant the text on the button that you click to get to the ask/post page. That's configured in category settings, meaning that the text should be available to the calling code (same as it is for showing the button). But you make a good point: that page already has a title, "New Post in Q&A", and maybe we should use that to be more consistent (use page titles in tab titles). The edit page also has a title, of the form "Edit post-type in category" (for example, "Edit Article in Blog"), which seems reasonable to me.
New proposal: use those page titles. Sound good?
