Please help with rooting Matricom G-BOX Q and installing Openelec

Open mihzyd777 opened this issue 9 years ago • 13 comments

Hello everyone,

So I just bought my first Android TV Box the Matricom G-BOX Q. I got it on Amazon so I have 30 days to return it and really want to be sure this system works for me before then so I can send it back if not.

I'm not new to the whole rooting deal etc.. as I'm rooted about 25 Amazon Fire TV boxes and installed SuperUser and use ADB to connect over network to push and install .apk's. However no matter how much reading I do on what I can find on the G-BOX Q which doesn't seem like much out there I can't for the life of me figure out how to root it (or probably .apk to install to root it if that's what's needed) Also I think I want to installed OPENELEC on it because from what I've read it's much quicker and stable.

So Here's what I need help with PLEASE :+1:

1.) Rooting G-BOX MQ with latest (Currently I have Android 4.4.2 and Firmware Version 1.4.0

2.) How to install OpenElec and configure to work with the latest stable Kodi (Currently 15.1)

3.) Once I have the G-Box Q rooted and Kodi installed, do I use Llama or Autopilot to have the box boot directly into Kodi or is there a way I can skip all boot up intros and desktops and go right into Kodi? I want to make this box and user friendly as possible and don't care to see any other desktop besides Kodi.

I appreciate anyone's help on this.

Take care!

I think you misuntderstand what OpenELEC is. It doesn't work in Android, but replaces it. It is separate operating system dedicated to run Kodi and boots right into it.

Hi Alex, Even better :) So there is no desktop or junk right it will boot directly into Kodi 15.1? So can you please help me and tell me what I need to install Open Electric and the latest Kodi on my new Matricom G-box Q? Thanks so much!! MIKE

Unfortunately G-box Q currently is not completely supported.

Is there something I can test and is it stable enough to run? I've seen people say use the Openelec for the MX8 on the box bit that hasn't worked for me.

Build for M8 should work on G-box Q with some limitations.

codesnake avatar Sep 13 '15 16:09 codesnake

If you don't mind me asking what type of limitations? I'm looking to build this box with the latest Kodi and need to be sure it's stable as I'm giving it to someone. So where do I start and what files are needed? Thanks so much for your help!

Hey Alex, I successfully installed Openelec with Kodi 14.2 and the box runs amazing so far. I do have a question for you since I have Openelec installed is there a way to install a remote app? On the Firetv I usually install quicksupport.apk which allows me to remote into boxes if I need to help someone. Is there anything like that? Thanks! Mike

@mihzyd777 Kodi supports many remotes from physical, web based to mobile apps. See here: http://kodi.wiki/view/Remote_controls Search for Kodi in the app store of your choice, there are literally hundreds to choose from.
