MX2 / G18 Freezes with fuzzy lines at boot after upgrading from 4.2.1 to 5.0.3
Hi, I have an issue with mx box that freezes at boot,
replication steps:
- I have an mx box which came stock with android 4.2.2.
- I flashed in recovery mode using OpenELEC-G18REF_MX2-4.2.1.zip and it runs fine but I wanted to upgrade to Kodi.
- So in recovery mode I flashed the OpenELEC-Amlogic.MX2.arm-5.0.3-update.zip, rebooted, and 9 times out of 10 it will freeze at boot (see screenshot attached).
- So I downgraded back to 4.2.1 by flashing it in recovery mode - and it worked fine again.
- I then tried an update to 5.0.3 via the update folder using the kernerl and system update files from OpenELEC-Amlogic.MX2.arm-5.0.3.tar. but this also has the boot issue.
does anyone have ideas of what i can check? could this be a hardware problem?
Cheers,
Sav
I have the same problem. I think the problem is kernel version. 4.2.0 use 3.0.101 and 5.0.3 use 3.10. Maybe this version of kernel cannot work on 8726mx.
Hi, what makes this a strange issue is that i have had openelec 5.0.3 working on the mx2 perfectly - the box was bought from ebay. I then purchased 2 more (what seem to be) identical boxes, from the same ebay seller about a month later. But the latter 2 boxes have this "screen freezing" problem. The internals look identical, the seller has no idea and cannot help so I'm stuck with a couple of dead boxes :(
is there a beta version i could try/test?
My MX2 box can only work on openelec 4.2.0 I built 5.0.3 and 5.95.2 but both of them cannot work on MX2 box. So you said you have a box can use 5.0.3 this is so strange.. Maybe you can update the box to android version and then flush a 4.2.0 in it.
By the way, do you have tvheadend work on MX2 4.2.0? I install tvheadend and pvr htsp client but cannot access tvheadend on my computer....
Hi no, i dont use tvheadend. I tried updating android firmware before flashing 5.0.3 but still not luck.
where did you get 5.95.2 from?
what is the cause. Mine mx box does the same
I download from github/codesnake. I think it's the problem of amlogic kernel. They updated the kernel version from 3.0 to 3.10. And it seems 3.10 cannot run on my mx box.
Hi, sorry I'm a little lost trying to navigate around github. where do you download 5.95.2 from exactly? cheers
github codesnake has 5.95.2
i'm really sorry for the noob repsonse, but where do i download the 5.95.2 zip file (ready to go) - i'm not that familiar with github. Thank you
@savvy28 I had the same problem. Bought a cheap MX2 box and managed to install OpenElec 4.97.3 succesfully. Newer versions 4.2.1 and 5.0.3 made the box freeze during start up, so there was not much hope for the new version 6.0.0. I installed fresh from zip file on a MX2 box with the toothpic method and now it works perfect! Now running Kodi 15.2 instead of 14.1. See the first topic in this post for the downloadlinks : http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/amlogic-based-tv-players/s802/others/19253-rom-openelec-for-amlogic-based-tv-boxes-m8-mxq-tv110-mx2-g18?18603-ROM-OpenELEC-for-Amlogic-based-TV-boxes-%28M8-MXQ-TV110-MX2-G18%29=&_=1452693556314 Hope this solves your problem.
@damluc Awesome! thanks so much i no longer have a dead box! works perfectly :)
