MX2/G18REF clone boxes not booting on 5.0.3
I have just bought two new G18REF boxes for use, and noticed that you had more up-to-date verions of OpenELEC and Kodi than my currently working-perfectly box.
I pulled down the latest stable version - 5.0.3 - from the XDA thread, and tried to install as an update.zip, but got an MD5 fail. Downloaded the recovery image and installed it, and that seemed to work fine. However, on first boot, the OpenELEC splash screen was somewhat corrupted (multi-coloured snow, but the image was still visible). The box just hung at that screen until a power-cycle, and when it booted again, the same thing happened.
I've tried it a couple of times, and the latest version I can get working on these boxes is the 4.2.1 build.
That seems to work fine, so I'm not too fussed, but it'd be nice to be able to have the latest version if it becomes necessary.

I had this Problem serveral times ( about 30% of the MX2 clone boxes). Here the "Solution":
First install "For new installations from Android Recovery - https://github.com/codesnake/OpenELE..._MX2-4.2.0.zip" - then copy "OpenELEC-Amlogic.MX2.arm-5.0.3.tar" for updating the exisiting installation via SSH into the ".update" -folder). Reboot...and it works fine!
Hi Mark-Aus,
Same problem here, have a HD18-V2.22 board in my mx2 clone, tried already everything, the link for 4.2.0. is not working b.t.w. Got problem with installing without any error, did fresh and tar updates but wathever I do the box keeps hanging in the first boot screen "thanks for choosing..." with a blurred screen with horizontal lines, but sometimes its goes threw the booting and working. Installied 5.0.3 from matricom 1.1.6, did install from 4.2.1, tried fresh and tar, also fresh install from 1.1.6 directly to 5.0.3. Ans always udes the wipe cache factory/reset etc. Codesnake mentioned that probably kernel differences in relation to the latest MTD causing the probs. How do I get the 4.2.0. version...? Thanks
Openelec link is btw..

But cannot confirm yet that it is working the solve the issue
Above method on my mx2 clone HD18 v2.22 is not working, 4.2.0 to 5.0.3, for me it looks like a problem with HDMI handshake... When i completelly unplug powercable from the box it starts ok again. But after reboot or off/on with remote it hangs again. Back to 4.97.3 again.
