Vacancy data

@zmon How can we get vacancy data from the city? We'll be working on our Vacant Prop soon.

@amandaCCF What is a vacant property?

  • No one living in a apartment
  • No one living in a building
  • There is no building on the property

Meaning: We will be working on the Vacant Property tab of the Nhood Stat app soon. From what I can tell from Open Data, the City tracks vacant parcels w no buildings on them (not what we're focused on right now), and vacant structures through 311 calls, land bank data, and maybe also properties owned by Homesteading Authority. @Eroche5 - are there other sources of data to locate vacant buildings before they transfer to Homesteading Authority or Land Bank? Also tagging @BenCCF

Also, would vacancy information from the post office be a good indicator of vacancy @Eroche5? Apparently Holly Dodge with KCMO is working with USPS to get this info.

Update (Amanda logged in as Ben): @eroche5 said that our best bet for vacancy data is land bank, housing authority, dangerous buildings. the city does not have any other sets that would be useful. @amandaCCF is working with a contact at HUD to get US Postal Service data on vacancy as that may be an earlier indicator of vacancy. The HUD contact is also checking if there is a way to get good foreclosure info since all foreclosures have to go through a court (not sure which one).
