so i start capturing and nothing comes up, is it that no one is currently logged onto the network? or this something else that I need to enable, or change my preferences to actually be able to capture?

I'm having the same problem on FF 3.6.10, OS X 10.6. However, on trying to add it as an icon, I found that instead, it was a giant icon with every button I had ever seen and more:

Using FF3.6.11 and a new mac mini running 10.6.4 Firesheep is set to sniff on the Airport (en1). I click "start capturing" and login to facebook on my dell mini 9 running ubuntu connected to the same open wifi nothing happens. If I login to facebook from the mac mini that is running firesheep it captures it (obviously). I also get the preference menu "shrinkage" often and have to restart Firefox completely to fix it.

Same to me, what's worst, the plugin doesn't work when this error comes. I grab things onlyfrom my local computer.

Same problem here. MacBook with OS X 10.5.8 running FF 3.6.11.

The pane shrinkage is annoying, but the real problem here is that it sees no cookies on any machine other than my own. It will sniff sessions in Safari running on the same machine, and sessions in Firefox itself, but nothing outside the MacBook. I have tested this on two different completely unsecured networks, using other computers to generate traffic that should be seen, but nothing is getting through.

It is set to capture en1, which is the airport interface on my MacBook.

I should also note that I had no problems with the fix-permissions error or anything else other than what I described above. It appeared to install just fine.

I have the same problem om my macbook. No problem with installing but i can only see my own traffic. Not any traffic outside my own machine. Why? Is there any setting I need to change on my macbook?

Another thing, is there any whey I can install firesheep on my Iphone?

I figured out my issue. The mac mini wouldn't capture because our campus wifi assigns an internet facing ip address for each user. I fired up my phones wifi hotspot and left it open and unencrypted, connected the ubuntu laptop and mac mini. After 3-5 minutes of being logged into facebook on the laptop the mac mini was able to highjack the session. I also uninstalled the plugin, ran firefox as root, then installed the plugin again.

what do you mean with "ran firefox as root"?

christianj avatar Oct 30 '10 10:10 christianj

I ran as root, which managed to update Firefox and lose all my preferences (!). I then reinstalled Firesheep. The preferences pane issue is still not fixed.

@christianj: to run as root is to go into the terminal and run it with the permission to do anything (that is, run it a the root user, who has permission to do anything). I think the command was something like, "sudo /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin"
