Extension causes slowdown/crash on several Google webapps

Open ellieLitwack opened this issue 3 years ago • 11 comments

I am on Windows, Firefox 87.0 (although I've also experienced this on previous versions)

I've noticed that Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Google Flights all slow down, freeze, or crash when this extension is turned on. A nice stop gap measure might be to be able to create a blacklist of sites which the extension won't run on.

Also - I love this extension so much! Watching videos on 2.5x has made my life so much better. Thank you!!

I haven't identified which pages it happens on but I can confirm this issue. Firefox even complained that Videospeed slows down the browser.

Same Issue, with pretty much the same error-messages as BubiBalboa. My problem was most evident on Google Slides, disabling the controller did not actually improve the issue though.

I love this extension but this issue drives me nuts, especially since I've tried many variations on blacklisting Google Flights in the add-on preferences and yet the issue never went away.

Does anyone have a working blacklist entry for Google Flights (or maybe another one of these Google webapps)? Or can someone else confirm that does not even solve the issue?

I'm facing this issue in multiple Google web apps, especially in Google Slides. Blacklisting the page fixes the problem.

I'm having problems with Google documents. While the extension is activated, I face a lot of lag. The only way to use it is disabling the extension.

As a workaround, under the extension's settins, you may disablelist sites aka disable the extension on specific sites

I think the issue I was running into with the blacklist workaround is that regex rules might be buggy for this extension.

For example, I'm pretty sure both /.*google.com\/travel\/flights\/.*/gi and .*google.com\/travel\/flights\/.* don't work. ̶T̶h̶a̶n̶k̶f̶u̶l̶l̶y̶,̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶g̶o̶o̶g̶l̶e̶ ̶f̶l̶i̶g̶h̶t̶s̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶ ̶j̶u̶s̶t̶ ̶u̶s̶e̶ ̶̶g̶o̶o̶g̶l̶e̶.̶c̶o̶m̶/̶t̶r̶a̶v̶e̶l̶/̶f̶l̶i̶g̶h̶t̶s̶/̶̶.̶ Edit: Don't think that works either.

I can reproduce this very consistently on Google Flights.

Still an issue with google flights. Very visible when opening the calendar to compare prices for example

FWIW the slowdown also happens on Sakai (a classroom management system). Sakai uses some pretty complex asynchronous Javascript and it interacts somehow with the speed controller. Yay for the blacklist!

I've observed this occurring on Google Sheets. I'm attempting to workaround this by adding docs.google.com to the add-on's preference called Sites on which extension is disabled
