The automatic fullscreen feature forcefully disables fullscreen for new tabs

Open asdsadsaasd12312132 opened this issue 5 years ago • 10 comments

Bug:
This bug causes the player to be unable to enter fullscreen>

How:

  1. middle mouse click on a video or right click on a video and click "open link in a new tab"
  2. remain on the current tab until the new tab fully loads (when the circle status icon disappears)
  3. go to the new tab
  4. the player will not be in fullscreen and cannot enter fullscreen by clicking f or the fullscreen button

Expected (/preferred) behavior: After swapping to the new tab, it should automatically enter fullscreen and not have issues toggling between it

Setup:

⚬ Version:
3.8

⚬ Browser:
Chrome Version 86.0.4240.198 (Official Build) (64-bit)

⚬ Settings:
improvedtube-settings.zip

⚬ OS:
Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version 20H2

Please try version 3.105-stable

This version allows you to enter fullscreen in the described scenario but it does not automatically enter fullscreen once you make the tab active, so the auto fullscreen feature is still broken in this case.

Yes, Google should send an update in the coming days.

The browser does not allow using fullscreen until the user has done some action on the page.

It seems it does not enter fullscreen automatically even after entering the tab with the video and performing actions, such as clicking and scrolling.

Also regarding the initial bug about being unable to enter fullscreen manually, it might have actually been caused by uBlock Origin. When I reported the bug being fixed, I tested it on a browser with only ImprovedTube installed. After installing uBlock Origin, I was unable to enter fullscreen manually again. Would it be possible to fix this incompatibility?

that would be confusing.

we could suggest browsers to add a fullscreen permission for extensions to request from users, to make this features flawless.

I have this problem in Firefox on Windows too. Full screen works great when clicking on a video from the Youtube page (and as far as I'm aware this is the only addon which can do this...well done!) but sometimes when the Youtube algorythm proposes several videos I'm interested in, I like to open them with right-click and "open in new tab" so that I don't lose the other suggested video(s) upon returning to the original list of videos. If you just play the video then hit "back" on the browser, youtube changes the list of proposed videos so you often lose the other videos you were interested to have a look at! If you open a video in a separate tab, you also have to full screen it manually. I'm guessing it's a limitation imposed by the browser, but is there any chance the addon could circumvent and somehow fullscreen the video automaticall when you switch to the tab in question please?

@soopacrucial can add the videos to your watch-later-list with one click.
