Hide "important" notifications.

Open OctagonalHexy opened this issue 11 months ago • 4 comments

SHORT Table (Summary)
Problem YouTube has started recommending random notifications from my feed as "important".
Solution A setting to hide these notifications as they get in the way of an otherwise manually curate able feed.
Alternatives Ignore them and scroll past to see your actual notifications feed.
Scope From what I can tell based on Reddit when i searched for this, its only been rolled out to some users just recently. I am absolutely certain that nobody that uses the manually curated notifications feed would want this feature, but YouTube also lets you set it to work like A home page for mostly the channels you subscribe to as well so I'm not sure how many people will use this.
Side effects I cant imagine anyone not wanting the option to disable this feature.
Context This may not stay A permanent feature as its still being rolled out in stages and possibly still being evaluated. For as frustrating as I find it, it may be worth waiting to see if it continues to exist for a while and see if its bothering even more users. I only found A single Reddit thread on the topic from just this last week with people annoyed they cant disable this, so it may be worth waiting to see if more users complain before putting the effort of implementing A feature.

except this feature has been known for 2 years now, as per this issue : https://github.com/inotia00/ReVanced_Extended/issues/798

Well, the section itself is not new, but previously it only had e.g. recent comment replies and when a creator gave you a heart or answered in it - now random videos are uprooted from the chronological feed and placed in that section instead. If they were just placed there too I wouldn't care - but for me the problem is that I now have no way to actually view the list in chronological order.

Has this request been worked on at all? I'd like the option to disable this too, if no one else is working on it I might consider giving it a shot myself.

Definitely a wanted feature. I sent YT the most unhinged feedback ever for this feature. They made me do it, is my defense.

…which has stopped working for me a while ago, now the notifications menu is entirely blank when the script was run inside the current document.

hi @Lampe2020 @Xetrill @OctagonalHexy @genericgamedev

stopped working for me a while ago

While our project is [not yet financially] sustainable,
globally 100s of developer update www . youtube (& m.youtube) extension features every month. 🤔 Can / should we combine their productivity and reduce this pain? https://github.com/code-charity/youtube/discussions/1881

hi @Lampe2020

Pinging me doesn't really help, because I have literally no clue about YouTube's inner workings (otherwise I'd make a script that un-crashes the YouTube player without needing a page reload, because the player almost always crashes unless I reload the page after a few minutes of it just waiting to be played). Also, it wastes my time, not only because I have a game I'm working on (solo!) and also ideally want to get my Linux-compatible 7zFM clone ready to use before Micro$oft drops Win10, but also because I literally cannot help in this matter.

Sorry for getting angry and I apologize beforehand incase I came across as rude (which unfortunately unintentionally happens to me all the time).
