Incompatibility with Enhancer for YouTube™
Bug Report:
⚬ BUG: Time remaining no longer updates inside the player ⚬ HOW:
- Install both this githubs extension/addon and Enhancer for YouTube™ extension/addon (Enhancer for YouTube™ website - https://www.mrfdev.com/enhancer-for-youtube)
- Do not change any settings on Enhancer for YouTube™ extension/addon
- Allow "Show video remaining duration" and its child option "Show time remaining with reference to playback speed"
- Observe the YouTube player for either non-existing or no updating remaining time
More / optionally:
⚬ Screenshots: Not needed
/ ⚬ Expected /preferred behavior: The remaining time will update even though Enhancer for YouTube™ is installed.
Alternatively - Add a new way to set the playback speed and add a disclaimer that some features might not work while Enhancer for YouTube™ is installed.
- Reason:
- This extension/addon is great, but the above mentioned one allows me to speed up the video with a nifty "shortcut" for changing the playback speed i.e. While holding right mouse button + ctrl, I can change the playback speed by turning the mouse scroll wheel up for faster and down for slower playback speed. This feature is a deal breaker for me as it is very fast. Plus this githubs extension/addon shortcuts "<" ">" do not work and do not overwrite the default youtubes playback speed control.
- The feature in this githubs extension/addon #1887 seems to be buggy, but on the above mentioned one it works flawlessly.
- The above mentioned extension/addon allows for way more granular way to disable background playback of other tabs.
⚬ Browser: Firefox 122.0 (64 bit) ⚬ Settings: Default settings except for the remaining time being set to true
⚬ OS: Windows 10 ⚬ Device: PC - 64x
hi @FajnB
granualar ... autoplay
Similar besides not listed all in a row in ImprovedTube. We should add the option to stop instead of just preventing autoplay. Maybe it should be the default? (is only "preventing autoplay" reliable in any extension recently?)
disclaimer that some features might not work while Enhancer for YouTube™ is installed.
we can add conditional notes when a user has uses certain feature and a certain extension
this one isnt urgent, but once we got this code prepared, we can easily use it for a few more things.
yes, < & > are youtube's defaults - and you can overwrite them with anything, including mouse buttons and scroll. #1887 is not a bug. (We could just possibly improve the visualization of entering ctrl and scroll both at once)
"Show time remaining with reference to playback speed"
why would YouTube Enhancer break this feature without setting anything there at all?
githubs extension
(Git is a collaboration tool by the Linux founder. Github adds features and was bought by Microsoft)
(is only "preventing autoplay" reliable in any extension recently?)
I have not tested that as I was pretty satisfied with how thinks were working with the extension mentioned above.
we can add conditional notes when a user has uses certain feature and a certain extension
This could be beneficial for your further development as some users might be using other extensions at the same time which could change the same things as yours thus creating undefined errors. It could be just a popup, probably after the installation, or whenever new known to cause extension is detected, that this and this extensions is known to cause issues and therefore you can not fully guarantee both of them working correctly at the same time. Or something along that line.
why would YouTube Enhancer break this feature without setting anything there at all?
My uneducated guess is that it might have some not explicitly mentioned performance enhancements which could reduce the player updates or maybe changes some part of the code that breaks the update for additional text? Idk I am only so good at understanding programming. I can do only the most basic of basic stuff with programming.
githubs extension
This was purely to differentiate between ("Improved YouTube" > "this githubs extension") and "Enhancer for YouTube™" extensions. I am sorry if it was not clear or I made some grammar mistake thus making it unclear.
