My bug report is specifically about the behavior when you have a typo that results in a syntax error. Probably a low priority as a result.
Same problem here with the official binaries. Camera works great in the preview and in Zoom but not in Quicktime. I'm on MacOS 12.5 Monterey with Quicktime Player 10.5
You can also try to right-click on the executable and select open, which will give you the error but still allow you to open it.
