Vamos not working on Ubuntu 24.04

I updated my Ubuntu some time ago to 24.04. and had to reinstall amitools due to the new bundled Python version 3.12. I am installing amitools from the repository as suggested. I make sure all prerequisites are met (Cython & Machine68k). Installation of all components runs smooth and fine. When I list the installed packages via pip, I see that Cython, Machine68k and amitools have been installed successfully. Manipulation of disk images using the XDFTOOL works as expected. However, when I try to launch VAMOS, I get an error that the root package machine68k is missing. This worked in my previous Ubuntu before the upgrade. Obviously, the packages were updated while I installed everything last time, amitools is now 0.8 and Machine68k is 0.2. Any help is appreciated. I am really going crazy over this :D
