cert manager Incubation Proposal
We believe cert-manager is ready for incubation and this commit adds our proposal! :grin: We're hoping to move forwards as quickly as we can and we'll gladly make ourselves available to help with any due diligence questions or any other tasks which might be required.
The maintainer team can be reached at cert-manager-maintainers <at> googlegroups.com - if there's a need for any other channels of communication please let me know and I'll ensure everything is sorted out.
We're really excited to get started with the incubation process!
NB: We also have our sandbox annual review in progress ( #770 ) but this PR is separate from that.
Question: Is it possible to have our incubation proposal added to "Projects waiting for sponsors" in the public working doc for the upcoming meeting?
Not sure this is the right place for this. I fully support cert-manager getting to incubation. It should have been done a long time ago IMO.
But I'm actually thinking this isn't going far enough. I've been using it in production on all of my clusters for a very long time now. Should it be skipped right to Graduated? Some of the metrics in https://www.cncf.io/blog/2022/09/20/new-research-says-cert-manager-is-vital-for-production-environments-that-are-scaling/ seem to indicate a lot more production usage then I was thinking.

Regarding graduation i'll add some info here, others can complement. During the DD process a few items were improved and you can find in the doc some others to be worked on next:

Specifically:
- documenting procedure for onboard/offboarding maintainers
- perform a joint review/security assessment together with TAG-Security
