Suggested doc (or blog post): Getting started in open source

We get a lot of inquiries over in the cncf/mentoring repo (and in the slack #mentoring channel) from folks new to cloud native and looking for a place to start. A getting started in open source guide tailored to cloud native would be helpful.

I'm not sure if this doc should be: one of this repo's howtos, a blog entry on cncf.io/blog, or a part of contribute.cncf.io, but I thought we could open this issue as a starting point and place to collect research (Who's doing this well, articles, etc.).

There may be a couple audiences for this kind of guide (so maybe there should be a few guides):

• People getting started in technology
• People with experience looking to contribute
