[Proposal] Cloud Native Security White Paper Brazilian Portuguese Translation

Open magnologan opened this issue 3 years ago • 39 comments

Description: Similar to #470 I'd like to start the translation of the Cloud Native Security White Paper to Brazilian Portuguese (pt-BR)

Impact: This would help the Portuguese-speaking community with the understanding and adoption of best practices for Cloud Native Security. This would also help the promotion of the white paper inside governmental organizations where only Portuguese documents are allowed.

Scope: Cloud Native Security White Paper (44 pages)

Duration: 3-5 weeks

  • [x] SIG Representative @lumjjb
  • [x] Project leader(s)
    • [x] @magnologan

I'd like to invite some Portuguese speaking professionals that I'm aware that are part of the Security and/or CNCF Community as well if they are interested:

@cpanato @filipi86 @rikatz @bizarrenull @imfvieira @SatanicDrNull @damelo @cardosoJV @P0ssuidao

If anyone else is also interested feel free to leave your name/contact info on this issue. Thanks!

Hi folks, really sorry for delay here, but here's the document I've created so that we can kickstart this project: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PZfeNRGjvHLWrIpJwHE4q400q0S5Dq5HQQ73YrC7n9k/edit

Basically what you have to do is assign a specific topic or paragraph under your name and make the translation as a comment so that we can review it later, makes sense? We can schedule a quick call next week to talk more about this! Thank you!

Let's not use guys/boys and be more inclusive, also we don't have only male persons contributing.

cpanato avatar Mar 02 '21 14:03 cpanato

Hi @cpanato, thanks for raising this concern. I totally understand your point, and I'm really concerned about being more inclusive. I'm sorry if I offended you or anyone else here, it's just force of habit. But as far as I know, in this specific situation I think that everyone here involved in this project are males or go by the pronouns he/him, please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyways, let's avoid using pronouns altogether to make sure that we are being more inclusive. Thanks for the heads up! =)

magnologan avatar Mar 02 '21 21:03 magnologan

I'd like to contribute @magnologan . By the way I'm she/her. 😉

krol3 avatar Apr 07 '21 09:04 krol3

Welcome Carol! Thanks for letting us know your preferred pronouns! That's really helpful! =)

Please let us know if you have any questions.

magnologan avatar Apr 07 '21 10:04 magnologan

Awesome! Welcome @krol3 !

@magnologan How is this coming along? Anything the chairs/TLs can do to help?

lumjjb avatar Apr 07 '21 16:04 lumjjb

Hi @lumjjb, at this time I don't think so. I'll take a look at the doc next week and see how we are doing on the translation piece and start reviewing those so that we can have at least a draft version to announce during KubeCon/CNSD.

julianocosta89 avatar May 04 '21 20:05 julianocosta89

Hello all, I went through the document and I saw that there are some terms that sometimes are being translated and sometimes not. Maybe I've missed that, but do we have a pattern to follow or that will be defined at the end by one of the reviewers?

Some terms don't sound natural in Portuguese, and I don't think people actually use it in Portuguese, like:

  • "Cargas de trabalho" for workload
  • "Implementações" for deployments
  • "Nuvem Nativa" for Cloud Native

I strongly believe there are more... Those were just in the paragraph I've worked on today.

julianocosta89 avatar May 04 '21 20:05 julianocosta89

Hi, @julianocosta89 thanks for sharing and highlighting those terms. We are still deciding on the best approach for the translation so that it could also be used for the pt-PT speakers such as Portugal. After the 1st translation phase is completed we'll review these terms and choose whichever makes more sense for a broader community.

magnologan avatar May 10 '21 17:05 magnologan

Hi everyone! Just sharing a bit of a status update here. I've started to review and make the changes on the doc. If you haven't had time to contribute and translate your paragraph please try to do so until next week. Thank you!

magnologan avatar May 27 '21 18:05 magnologan

Hi @magnologan , what is the status of this - how far into this are we?

lumjjb avatar Jun 28 '21 18:06 lumjjb

Hi @magnologan ! I think we are almost there with this one. I am trying to fill some paragraphs I found in the introduction. Let me know if you need some help with revision after we finish the translation suggestions.

KoelhoSec avatar Jul 28 '21 22:07 KoelhoSec

Hi, @KoelhoSec thanks for all the help and great effort so far! If you could please start reviewing and approving the changes from other people's translations, I'll work on reviewing yours next week. Sounds good? Thank you!

magnologan avatar Jul 29 '21 12:07 magnologan

Sounds good @magnologan !

KoelhoSec avatar Aug 03 '21 22:08 KoelhoSec

Following up with @KoelhoSec to regroup on this and figure out a schedule.

lumjjb avatar Aug 16 '21 19:08 lumjjb

Translation is 99% done, just needs review and accepting changes.

  • Plan is to move forward with accepting changes
  • Convert to markdown and create PR
  • Do a review / public comment
  • SHIP IT

lumjjb avatar Aug 25 '21 19:08 lumjjb

Hi @KoelhoSec , just checking back on this. How is this going?

lumjjb avatar Sep 10 '21 13:09 lumjjb

Hi @lumjjb. I am on the final stretch of accepting changes/revision. But I just noticed there were about 5 pages (25-30) that were not translated yet so I will focus on those as well. I believe we should be good to go over to convert to markdown and create the PR over the next 3 weeks, hopefully begining of October.

KoelhoSec avatar Sep 10 '21 23:09 KoelhoSec

Awesome! Looking forward to it. If we get this in by Kubecon we can socialize it during the event!
