[SANDBOX PROJECT ONBOARDING] kpt
Welcome to CNCF Project Onboarding! This is an issue created to help onboard your project into the CNCF after the TOC has voted to accept your project. We would like to complete onboarding within one month of acceptance.
From the project side, please ensure that you:
- [ ] Understand the project proposal process and reqs: https://github.com/cncf/toc/blob/main/process/project_proposals.md#introduction
- [ ] Understand the services available for your project at CNCF https://www.cncf.io/services-for-projects/
- [ ] Ensure your project meets the CNCF IP Policy: https://github.com/cncf/foundation/blob/master/charter.md#11-ip-policy
- [ ] Review the online programs guidelines: https://github.com/cncf/foundation/blob/master/online-programs-guidelines.md
- [ ] Understand the trademark guidelines: https://www.linuxfoundation.org/legal/trademark-usage
- [ ] Understand the license allowlist: https://github.com/cncf/foundation/blob/master/allowed-third-party-license-policy.md#approved-licenses-for-allowlist
- [ ] Is your project working on written, open governance? see https://contribute.cncf.io/maintainers/governance/
- [ ] Slack: Are your slack channels migrated to the Kubernetes or CNCF Slack? (see https://slack.com/help/articles/217872578-Import-data-from-one-Slack-workspace-to-another for more details)
- [x] Is your project in its own separate neutral github organization?
- [x] Submitted a Pull request to add your project as a sandbox project to https://landscape.cncf.io
- [x] Create maintainer list + add to aggregated https://maintainers.cncf.io list by submitting a PR to it
- [ ] Artwork: Submit a pull request to https://github.com/cncf/artwork with your artwork
- [ ] Domain: transfer domain to the CNCF - https://jira.linuxfoundation.org/plugins/servlet/theme/portal/2/create/63
Things that CNCF will need from the project:
- [x] Provide emails for the maintainers added to https://maintainers.cncf.io in order to get access to the maintainers mailing list and ServiceDesk - [email protected] is the best email to send those to
- [ ] Transfer any trademark and logo assets to the Linux Foundation via the Contribution Agreement.
- [x] GitHub: ensure 'thelinuxfoundation' and 'caniszczyk' are added as initial org owners, this helps us make sure we have continuity of GH ownership that we will onboard to our GitHub Enterprise instance: https://github.com/enterprises/cncf
- [x] GitHub: ensure DCO or CLA are enabled for all GitHub repositories of the project
- [x] GitHub: ensure that that the CNCF Code of Conduct (or your adopted version of it) are explicitly referenced at the project's README on GitHub
- [ ] Website: ensure LF footer is there and website guidelines followed (if your project doesn't have a dedicated website, please adopt those guidelines to the README file of your project on GitHub).
- [ ] Website: Analytics transferred to [email protected]
- [ ] OpenSSF Best Practices Badge: Start on an OpenSSF Best Practices Badge https://bestpractices.coreinfrastructure.org/en
Things that the CNCF will do or help the project to do:
- [x] Devstats: add to devstats https://devstats.cncf.io/
- [x] Insights: add to LFX Insights https://insights.v3.lfx.linuxfoundation.org/
- [x] Events: update CFP + Registration + CFP Area forms
- [x] ServiceDesk: confirm maintainers have read https://www.cncf.io/services-for-projects/
- [x] CNCF Welcome Email Sent to confirm maintainer list access
- [ ] Book time with the team with http://project-meetings.cncf.io
- [ ] Adopt a license scanning tool, like FOSSA or Snyk
DevStats instance added. Also added in All CNCF projects health instance. Will be fully-added to all other All CNCF dashboards on Friday (affiliations research started today, and will be imported as it progresses).
Hi @mortent ! My name is Crystal and I am in charge of assisting sandbox projects with the onboarding process! I don't know if you were made aware of this checklist but it would be great to get on the same page with what tasks you have completed and what still needs to be done.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!
I added kpt to FOSSA and Snyk and invited all maintainers to join both CNCF FOSSA and the kpt Organization on the CNCF Snyk Group
@mortent @droot @natasha41575 @justinsb @johnbelamaric, let me know when you have accepted either or both of the invites above.
To satisfy the license scanning box you can use either service to scan project code and I only need one of you to connect you code repos to either service.
Many thanks.
Responsibility of the project is moving to @ciaranjohnston , @liamfallon and myself (@CsatariGergely ).
@RobertKielty can you add us to FOSSA and Synk? Thanks.
Invites sent out; as soon as you've accepted them, let me know, I'll add you to the kpt Team on CNCF FOSSA.

Thanks @RobertKielty , I can't seem to find the invite.

Me neither
Checking now ...
@CsatariGergely you already have a FOSSA account associated with your work email. I can email FOSSA Support and request that your account be migrated to the CNCF FOSSA Org. You would lose access to the account associated with the email address I have for you. If that is a problem, message me on cloud-native Slack; I can outline options. Otherwise, I will log that support request and cc you.
@ciaranjohnston and @liamfallon, I resent invitations to you both, but I cannot see your email addresses in pending invites on FOSSA. Please check your email inboxes again and confirm that you have not received invitations. I will log a separate call with FOSSA to look at this. Feel free to message me on cloud-native Slack.
Hi @RobertKielty , I got the invitation about 30 minutes ago, I have accepted it, thanks!
Thanks for that @liamfallon
I've added you to the kpt team
https://app.fossa.com/account/settings/organization/teams/56352
Follow the instructions to do a Quick Import of the kpt code repos into FOSSA
https://docs.fossa.com/docs/quick-import
When that is done, we can mark this as complete. (Account setup for @CsatariGergely @ciaranjohnston notwithstanding)
Thank you @ciaranjohnston for importing the kpt repo into FOSSA.
@ciaranjohnston, @liamfallon, and @CsatariGergely,
Are there any other items we can mark as complete? Many of the tasks only require reading CNCF documents and policies.
Also, please make sure that these documents are up to date with the latest maintainer info: https://github.com/cncf/foundation/blob/main/project-maintainers.csv?plain=1#L1532-L1536 https://github.com/kptdev/kpt/blob/main/MAINTAINERS
Great to meet you in Helsinki @CsatariGergely!
@CsatariGergely any updates on the onboarding tasks?
I'll be sharing a new Contribution Agreement with you shortly:
- [ ] Transfer any trademark and logo assets to the Linux Foundation via the Contribution Agreement.

Great to meet you in Helsinki @CsatariGergely!
I think we can tick the following tasks:
- [x] Understand the project proposal process and reqs. - I did read the README in this repo though.
- [x] Understand the services available for your project at CNCF
- [x] Review the online programs guidelines
- [x] Understand the trademark guidelines
- [x] Understand the license allowlist
- [x] Slack: Are your slack channels migrated to the Kubernetes or CNCF Slack? - We have #kpt on the Kubernetes Slack

Great to meet you in Helsinki @CsatariGergely!
I think we can also tick the following task:
- [x] OpenSSF Best Practices Badge: Start on an OpenSSF Best Practices Badge https://bestpractices.coreinfrastructure.org/en
The following OpenSSF badges have been opened OpenSSF for the kpt repo OpenSSF for the krm-functions-catalog repo OpenSSF for the krm-functions-sdk repo
Maintainer info update in https://github.com/cncf/foundation/pull/1031
In order to close out the trademark (registered or not) task, I've sent the latest version of the Contribution Agreement for signature by Google to the contributors listed in the original Sandbox application.
@ciaranjohnston, @liamfallon, and @CsatariGergely,
While we work through the Contribution Agreement with Google, are there other items we can mark complete?
- [ ] Ensure your project meets the CNCF IP Policy: https://github.com/cncf/foundation/blob/master/charter.md#11-ip-policy
- [ ] Transfer kpt.dev to the CNCF. The "LF Stakeholder email" is [email protected]. The "Project" is CNCF.
- [ ] Website: ensure LF footer is there and website guidelines followed (if your project doesn't have a dedicated website, please adopt those guidelines to the README file of your project on GitHub).
For the website footer, it would be:
Copyright © kpt a Series of LF Projects, LLC For website terms of use, trademark policy and other project policies please see lfprojects.org/policies/.

Correct. I've created a pr (https://github.com/kptdev/kpt/pull/4232) to update the new, Hugo based website. After the domains are transferred we wold like to serve kpt.dev from here.
For the function catalog (https://catalog.kpt.dev/) we need a bit more time to move to Hugo and add a footer. Most of this is generated and we need to update the logic how they are generated.

While we await Google to sign the CA, can we confirm that this has been done @ciaranjohnston, @liamfallon, and @CsatariGergely?
