This PR focuses on UPP and CLF Synthetics, adding quirks to their individual styles and flavor.
CLF - Utilizes improvised equipment and medicine. Biggest feature for the CLF Synthetic is a new medicine called 'Frenzy', which is an extremely jank medicine used to get their fighters & militia riled up and not afraid to fight. To prepare their nerves and get them high before combat. This medicine has a long list of side effects, and its properties include getting high, hallucinogens, hunger, pain but it will also dull pain and make them faster to rush the USCM and CMB in a revolution! Flavor: "A combination of Jungle Devil, Blu-Blu, Tungalou and a mix of pain-numbing opioids. CLF Fighters use this before conducting fights or raids, otherwise known as a 'Nerve-Number', a play on beta-blockers. Any one of the drugs used in this concoction would land you a cold jailcell in Sol, but just being associated with Frenzy in the Outer Veil places you under #1 surveillance by the CMB." "A highly illegal concotion of drugs, infamously utilized by CLF fighters to improve performance and steel their nerves before combat. Extremely volatile side effects. The subject of many CMB sting operations, a minimum charge for possession of Frenzy carries at least 10 years in UA federal prison."
UPP - Extremely utilitarian and militaristic. Propaganda figure which showcases the holdfast might of the UPP, fear and intimidation for totalitarian control. Biggest feature for the UPP Synthetic is the Type 2 Protector Shield for the now renamed UPP Enforcer Synthetic - representing the UPP Military Police instead of the Medical Corps. Flavor: "A special-issue ballistic shield manufactured in the Union of Progressive Peoples, developed from lessons learnt after the Sol Campaign. This was prepared for heavy point units, protecting multiple users behind the lead individual's tall shield, and able to be staked down to provide fire - this unit is missing its ground stakes. It is not recommended for extensive usage unless a Synthetic is present due to the immense weight, though it can be folded down for easier storage"
background on the PR A many months ago(februrary), the decision came to remove UPP and CLF combat synthetics from rotation. At that time I got together with the maintainers(ie Nanu) and my council to outline some ways I wanted to flavor each faction. As you may notice, the only ones affected were the ones who had combat synthetics and now do not. My proposals were as follows: CLF - Really shitty, jank medicine. Isn't really good at anything and has a bunch of misc gear. UPP - Very militaristic, focused on combat medical training, defensive equipment like smokes or shields.
I'm super simplifying the above, but you get the point. My ideas were good to go and parts were prepared. The issue was we didn't have anything like that at the time and we couldn't get it in. Sprites and code were missing. The maintainers were busy. As I got more freetime I chipped away at the ideas and code, finally solidfying a product and with the help of sprite provided by iamtheguy & thwmp.
So to reiterate all faction themes: USCM - Versatile and adaptable WY - Technologically superior equipment VAIPO - Between USCM and WY UPP - Utilitarian and military focused CLF - Desperate and improvised tactics CMB - Outdated, underfunded but reliable
Explain why it's good for the game
Adding flavor mainly to two Synthetics which had their core (literally) removed. This gives a new identity to both of the roles which is the most important thing here.
Lore helps paint our ingame universe to be more intricate and detailed, helping players be immersed. Each faction should have a prevailing theme and this helps that shine through.
Testing Photographs and Procedure
Tested over 6 cycles to look for bugs and adjust sprites. I unfortunately lost contact with iamtheguy so I had to fix up the sprites myself for onmob, hopefully they are good.

This is a slurry of drugs made to prepare fighters for combat, it has serious side effects, but the job is to get their fighters high, fearless, and go into combat. add: Adds a shield called the Type 2 Protector to UPP Synthetic.
