RenoXD + Optiscaler + Reshade64.dll (renamed reshade) - crash in The Outer Worlds Spacer's Choice

Open Rileyfrostbite opened this issue 6 months ago • 10 comments

I tried to run the mentioned dlls, but adding the RenoXD for generic unreal engine games crashes The Outer Worlds.

Removing the add-on removes the issue.

I didn't manage to find the problem, but in order to use Optiscaler with Reshade, I had to first install reshade and rename dxgi to reshade 64. After that, I installed optiscaler and configured the ini file of Optiscaler to make it discover and run alongside reshade. I can run effects from reshade just fine with optiscaler, it's only the renoxd add-on that crashes the game. The alternative is to remove Optiscaler... but I thought maybe there is a way to run all three of them.

If anyone is willing to look into this and requires certain files or configs, let me know.

Thank you.

I found this post but have yet to try it myself. I tried it once without these instructions and failed with RE4. I thought maybe its just not possible but I guess it could be.

That might have just been something to do with RE framework converting to DLSS and optiscaler not detecting any upscaling to turn on OptiFG I think. Some games might be good for it.

Thank you for the share, @VirtuaTyKing!

I did try to rename the dlls, so -> Reshade64.dll that initially got renamed so after dxgi (to allow Optiscaler to work together with it) now became dxgi.dll again. Optiscaler.dll renamed to - winmm.dll. Added the latest renoxd add-on for Unreal engine games (latest snapshot). Well, still crashes with it...

The game loads as soon as I remove the add-on, so I can say the problem is with the add-on not working with optiscaler (or never having been tested in this combo) or with Optiscaler itself. It's probably the same thing lol.

There isn't a lot of info about this on the web - I guess people aren't spending that much time to add a bunch of stuff into a game, and the Outer Worlds, which isn't even popular.

I will remove the add-on and just use the regular Reshade with RTX HDR for now.

I can't open this game at all with renodx. Reshade is fine but if I turn renodx on it crashes after the initial starting videos play.

Had the same issue and the only way to make it work I found by accident was using this: https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/196?tab=files

Got an Nvidia gpu, so haven't tried the xess variant, but works just great with dlss + latest renodx unreal / reshade 6.5.1, also these upgrades for a proper image: Upgrade_R10G10B10A2_UNORM=1 Upgrade_B8G8R8A8_TYPELESS=1

I've also reported here. I believe that it's exactly the same issue. But it happens (in my case) ONLY when OptiFG is enabled. If you are not using frame generation and you only need to use upscaling then it works fine.

@mpq1671 I actually spoke directly with the renodx developer on this and discord and he did a quick fix at the time that made it work for me and should be in the unreal file now.

@Rhiyo Thanks, always good to know! Actually I'm good with DLSS anyway :D

Unless something massive gets fixed I'm not holding my breath for Optiscaler or smooth motion working with RenoDX. At least native FG works. For the record smooth motion wouldn't work with Liliums Shaders + AutoHDR addon or SpecialK HDR either. It's a shame because with my current system I'm always going to choose a smoother experience if possible over perfect HDR.

Ok I found a fix for this (at least worked for returnal). You gotta upgrade R10G10B10A2_UNORM and then restart the game. Then turn on "FG immediate capture" to fix the flickering.
