Make the unread message count in the chat tabs stand out
Either use colour or a 'label'-type element.
Split from #103
Veto on using colour as it's not accessible.
I don't understand this veto. The unread counts will still be there in text for screen readers and such -- we're not taking anything away from this mode of usage. Adding a color cue just makes it easier for sighted folks to notice an unread message out of the corner of their eye...
I would prefer try to find a way that makes them stand out even for colour blind or partially sighted users, since they're such an important social feature.
No objection to that. But why not also make them red? :-)
I agree with Benjamin - progressive enhancement for people without disabilities using colour is fine. If you have a suggestion which will also improve things for users with sight impairment, I am all ears!
I feel that the unread counts in the current UI are fairly balanced - they appear in the sidebar buttons in an easy to see way, as well as the top tab list and in the chat list.
I'm not sure if there is an issue tracking the idea of floating chats with unread messages to the top of the list - which I've just not got around to doing right now.
