Display configuration when pressing SET button
I am using the KL hybrid servo with the KL5080 exact copy of James' setup.
First switch and code download went exactly to plan and I had a working system.
Absolute jubilation.
Except the settings were set to default.
I needed to change to 8TPI leadscrew and change the steps to 1000 and a 2 for the microsteps.
(I have the servo going round twice for a single turn of the leadscrew)
I also had to change the steps in the servo driver to 1000 from 4000.
Did all this and reloaded the code. Servo does a single rapid jump and then goes into alarm mode.
Reset all my settings to the defaults (200/1/12TPI and servo to 4000) Same result, rapid twitch of the servo then alarm LED comes on ON the 5080. Repeated a few times and same result.
Major depression ...

Think I have solved it .... I had set the servo to 1000 steps via the RS232 interface to the 5080 thinking that this was what James meant when he said he had tweaked the servo. This does something bad to the system .... reseting the 5080 to 4000 steps solves the problem. Severely bad practice on my part that I had changed two different sets of things at the same time so I had no reference where the problem lay. What does James mean when he says he changes the 5080 settings ?
Final thought - it would be nice if the display could be commanded to give a readout of the leadscrew, step sizes, microsteps, encoder value to give a warm glow that what you think you have asked it to do it really has ....
That's not a bad idea at all. This would be a good use of the SET button for now.
Changed the title and marked as an enhancement request.
Hi James - Also would be nice for the display to remember the last settings used when next switched on or some ability to set a preferred default value - eg I am always in metric mode but it currently comes up in Imperial. Probably easiest to go to 'last setting' ?

@Coxworld I have the same issue with the steps/rev being at 4000 and I need to reduce to 1000. I have the cable on the way and have already downloaded Protune. You said that when you changed the setting from 4K to 1k, "This does something bad to the system .... resetting the 5080 to 4000 steps solves the problem." So does this mean you don't have a solve for the step/rev issue? What does James have to add about this? what do (may of us) do to solve this? My stepper is turning 4 times as fast as it should be. I though about changing the config.H setting to 4000, but I could see this as an issue when turning and using it as a power feed. When the spindle is spinning at say...2000 rpm, that stepper is going to have to be moving super fast to compensate for the high step count (?)
I had wrongly changed two parameters on the encoder interface, the Pulse/Circle and also Encoder Resolution from 4000 to 1000 and I should only have changed the Pulse/Circle to 1000 and left the Encoder Resolution at 4000. On the TI software I changed the step size to 1000 and the micro steps to 2 as I have a 2:1 reduction drive ratio from the servo to the leadscrew. I created a write up which you can download from my blog https://altrish.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Electronic-Leadscrew-on-Myford-Super-7.pdf
