Function Cluster
Hello,
Will this allow us to use the Function Cluster "Copy / Paste / Open" on the left on Windows?
Regards,
Julian
No.
These key codes are erased at the Windows USB HID driver level. This critical driver is not USB HID compliant on purpose by Microsoft.
There is nothing that can be done without implementing a replacement.
I seem to recall that Microsoft had such dedicated keys for "Copy and Paste" in their Ergonomic 4000 keyboard and they worked perfectly. What if we used a different port like a USB to PS/2 adapter?
There are two explanations I can think of right now on how it could be implemented (although the Ergonomic 4000 doesn't have copy+paste keys).
- The keyboard is rewriting to the accelerator key combo
- Using a reserved range of key codes that require a driver to make them work
Both of which are not USB HID compliant (as I understand it).
I would need a keyboard to confirm (or somebody to give me a print out of the driver stack being used where it works) but alas that doesn't help with the Sun Type 7.
I finally got myself a Sun Type 7 keyboard to try out the driver. Everything seems to working except for the Function cluster on the left.
