List of voice acts.

I'll start a list of the voice acts, which are required in my opinion. Please discuss if the entries are ok, or provide others as well.

General messages for stupid user actions

"I can't carry any more" "I can't" "I am not sure" "What?" "not sure what to do!"

Limitations to the hero

"I can't carry any more." <- Also interesting for traders, not sure if we get those voice acts again "I cannot learn that yet." "There must be another way." "I have no mana." "I have no money to buy that" "I need more gold"

Entering a new map or some new area

"Ah, a rotten temple" "Goblins... I never liked these creatures" "What will I find in these ruins?" "The evil shall reconsider" "If I ever get back to civilisation?" "I can smell the evil" "Undeads, get back in your graves!"

"My bag is full." IIRC I heard that in Torchlight. "My health is low." "Ok, guys. Party is over."

Quality voice acting is expensive. Random person with a regular PC microphone or headset will not record something acceptable to Flare (not in audio quality nor voice quality).

So, when I collect the exact lines we want and commission the voice actors, we will want a very specific list of lines and we'll want confidence that they fully cover the essential voices.

Those "entering a new map/area" type lines will not make the cut. They're too specific. I would want lines to even be usable in modern or futuristic games.

"I can't carry any more" or "I'm hurt" are the right kind of lines. They are generic and they fill UI purposes (another way to notify the player of a game state).

One other thing to consider is trying to get a voice actor who can be reached again, if needed.

So we plan to have voice acting which fits all of the flare based games or are we going to get some specific to flare the game?

I personally believe this is a flare-game issue - it's art, not code, and different games with different feels will have different voice acting lines. I think the files would end up in mods/?/npcs/audio or something, and if someone wanted, they could still reuse the CC licensed assets in their own mod.
