Select a different printer for each email

First, Congratulations for the great plugin.

Well, this request supposed to be in the new feature suggestion but is also considered as a BUG or left behind feature on PintingTollsNG.

Since PT-NG already reads the installed printers' list but prints on the DEFAULT printer only, it should be reasonable and easy to be able to set one (different) printer for each email account.

A typical example in my restaurant that send orders receipts and kitchen orders to two printers in two different physical location, in my case, the solution was to have two computers with two thunderbird installation to achieve this goal, sounds ridiculous and very costly, doesn't it?

This maybe could be considered as a filter where several individual parameters are set to individual email accounts.

There are many business situation where this kind of scenario is true and PrintingTool NG could easily handle this with a little TLC from the development team.

Email 1 prints on Printer 1 Email 2 prints on Printer 2 and so on.

Paulo

@cleidigh @acdigital just a suggestion on this

Perhaps a user can have an Action in message filters called Print to Specific Printer with that initiating a dropdown of current printers. (similar to the Tag Message action which opens a dropdown with a list of tags)

This allows the user to designate the filters as desired and ultimately print to different printers with the same pc/thunderbird setup.

Confusing explanation, NG supposed to be able to set a different printer for each email account. Today we have a choice to chose one global printer that will print from all the email accounts. CHOICE OF ONE PRINTER PER EMAIL ACCOUNT IS THE DEAL.

@acdigital you're saying to be able to choose a different default printer for each profile, right?

54331241 avatar Mar 05 '21 17:03 54331241

Sir/madam, not the default printer for each profile (email) of course because there is only one default printer in the computer. I meant to choose any printer to any profile (email) so, email 1 will print in the printer 1, email 2 on printer 2, 3 on 3 or any other combination. Try to follow my thought, when we install TB and PNG there is a choice to choose the default printer or any printer to be the default printer for NG. I understand as default printer the printer that will be called as 1st choice to any printer service in the computer despite if the app including NG plugin. NG GIVES ME AN OPTION to choose another printer as NG DEFAULT, not necessarily the computer’s default printer. The NG GLOBAL PRINTER SETUP opens a dropdown menu tô choose the printer to be the NG DEFAULT GLOBAL printer. I suggest to have this menu on each profile (email), this way Any email can print to any printer.

My thoughts came from a restaurant with 3 thermal printers performing orders from woocommerce, I had to have 3 computers with TB+NG INSTALLED to perform these tasks because NH only prints in one printer for all the email accounts (profiles). Should be useful if I could have a way to choose an specific printer for each email account, is important to note for clarification that the content to be printed on each printer are not the same, one is kitchen order, another is the receipt and another is the customer order that goes with the food to the customer. Important to tell you in my case the printer are in different locations, one in the kitchen, another in the office and another one in the cashier.

I think my question is so obvious and so simple arhat could be applied to so many business industries not only restaurants.

Is this understandable Sir?

Thanks, Paulo Lopes
