Issues Extracting a Password-Protected .rar File with p7zip

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to extract a password-protected .rar file. After looking through various bundles, I found that p7zip is available. Once installed, I ran the command:

$ 7z x WinPE11_10_8_Sergei_Strelec_x86_x64_2025.02.17_English.rar -pstrelec

However, I received the following error:

I tried renaming the archive, thinking it might be a character issue, but I got the same result. I also tried modifying the permissions:

chmod 644 WinPE11_10_8_Sergei_Strelec_x86_x64_2025.02.17_English.rar

What could be causing this? initially it look p7zip because it was a dependency for WineGUI.

P.S. On Github i just find repository of https://github.com/ip7z/7zip/commit/e5431fa6f5505e385c6f9367260717e9c47dc2ee

You may try and see if p7zip installed on other distros provide different results. I am of the belief that p7zip is too old, and that installing another extractor (like the official 7zip source you just linked) would be best

Hi, unfortunately I don't have another Linux distribution. However, I tried extracting it on Windows, and it works correctly.

I agree with you that an official package would be necessary.
