Tutorial for installing an AMD GPU Pro driver

Open JSEHV opened this issue 5 years ago • 4 comments

Do you think Clear Linux documentation needs a new document? Please describe. As the tutorial for the NVIDIA driver is up, the AMD Pro driver is missing.

Should the new document be a guide, a reference, or a tutorial? A tutorial how to install would be sufficient

Describe or provide examples of similar documents, if possible, from other web sites It can be similar as: https://docs.01.org/clearlinux/latest/tutorials/nvidia.html

Additional context Link to the driver: https://github.com/clearlinux/distribution/issues/1460

Out of curiosity, what is the benefit of the AMDGPU Pro driver on top of the opensource one that you're seeking?

My understanding is that the performance gap between the opensource amdgpu/radeon drivers and amdgpu pro drivers is significantly less and shrinking, if not negative.

That was exactly the reason, for some professional CAD application we use, the performance with the AMDGPU Pro driver is still significantly (10%+) faster.

A potential use case for this (plaidML) was brought up on the forums: https://community.clearlinux.org/t/support-for-amdgpu-pro/3703/2
