Link user profile to ORCID via ckanext-orcid

orcid is a DOI for researchers.

A new extension ckanext-orcid could link the user profile to the user's orcid, much like ckanext-doi links datasets to their DOI.

Initially this would strengthen the linkage between the CKAN user's research (orcid) and data publishing (CKAN) activities, and aid attribution.

Currently I haven't got playtime available to work on this, but looking at ORCID, it seems they could also use a CKAN import wizard: https://support.orcid.org/knowledgebase/articles/188278-import-works-website-user

  • CKAN user profiles could get a new user profile field "orcid_id".
  • CKAN's API could provide a way to filter package_list by author's orcid_id.
  • A hypothetical CKAN wizard at ORCID could "add works" from above API call.
