Dragon Quest 8 Photo Bug

Open saintbepis opened this issue 5 years ago • 8 comments

When trying to take photos in dragon quest 8 the photos will save as a completely black picture as if nothing was taken meaning that you will not be able to get past cameron obscure when you first encounter him and in turn making the game not passable past the 3rd town

What do you have the camera set as in the settings?

What do you have the camera set as in the settings?

I have them all at default with inner camera using camera as the source and any front camera, outer left camera with any back camera and device source, and outer right camera with device source and any back camera.

For more context the game has an in game camera that let's you take pictures of the game world and you have to take pictures of certain things to pass through a certain point but those pictures come out as black and dont save correctly

So this isn't related to the real camera, only the game one, right?

Well it's hardware renderer issue if you turn it off emulator will go extremely slow but after taking the photo do a quick save and restart, you will be good to go

Turning off the hardware renderer will make it extremely slow. Took me about an hour to take the picture. Then u have to walk to the church to save the game, quicksaving with hardware renderer turned off crashes the game. I'm using a oneplus 5T.

As a workaround I downloaded the citra mmj version(unofficial version) because it allows cheats codes. Using the wall hack cheat u can walk to the lighthouse, ignoring the camera guy. If you save your game in the next town u can use the normal citra build again.

For those of you that are using Citra emulator on Android, I have the solution.

Step 1- Download Citra Nightly on your PC. Load DQ8 onto the PC version of Citra. Step 2- Navigate to C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\Citra\sdmc Step 3- Connect your phone to your PC. Navigate to the sdmc directory inside your phone. Step 4- Copy the contents of the sdmc directory on your phone to the sdmc directory on your PC and overwrite them. Step 5- Load the game on your PC. Under Emulation>Configure>Graphics, set the Internal Resolution to Native (400x240) Step 6- Take a picture of Cameron, talk to him, and FINALLY get his response. Step 7- Quicksave out of DQ8 on Citra Nightly on PC. Step 8- DELETE the contents of the sdmc directory on your phone. Step 9- Copy the contents of the sdmc directory on your PC into the sdmc directory on your phone. Step 10- SUCCESS! You now have a save game that has passed this horrible roadblock.
