Minor cosmetic tweaks

Open karaokefreak opened this issue 4 years ago • 4 comments

Hi again TRdrop works perfectly now (except for my little HDR problem), so I am very satisfied with this app. However, I would like to suggest some minor tweaks for the overlay display.

  1. TEARING When a video has lots of tearing, the horizontal bars can be very distracting, borderline confusing. How about just having short lines on the left and right edge of the screen, while sparing the center of the screen? About 1/16th of the screen, each? Maximum 1/8th of the screen. Just big enough to show a clear indication of a torn screen and short enough to provide a clear view on the picture. Doubling them with a drop shadow would help the contrast, too, when using them in very colorful footage: See the linked screenshot

  1. Center Line for the Frame Time Graph When I activate graph centering, the frame time graph will also move to the center, which is great. However, an indicator for the center wouldn't be bad.

  2. Center Line BEHIND the graph Is it possible to move the center line behind the frame time / framerate graph? If not, well, it's not the biggest problem, but from an aesthetic POV it would be more in line with the rest.

  3. Optional removal of the center arrow. I know, it was I who suggested the arrow for the center line to make it more clear that the graph updates at the center. But it bugs me... a lot... so much, that I used a masking option in premiere in order to remove it, which costs me additional render time. especially when rendering 4K HDR video, which takes forever even without extra masking. So could you make that optional please? To make it clear: I want the center line to stay, only the arrow above it bugs me.

I know, that's all minor cosmetic stuff, but now that everything else is close to perfection, that stuff really sticks out imho. Thanks for your efforts and patience.

Glad to hear that you like the software.

  1. I'm both not that happy with the current way to display it, but I also feel the way you proposed doesn't indicate "that's a tear". I'm open to other suggestions, maybe even replicating the stuff from digital foundry, but I actually decided against that as I feel their visualization also lacks understanding. But I do understand that you don't like the current way. Can you please explain how tears affect your workflow/analysis and maybe we can come up with something better? As in what do you want your viewers to take from the information "there was a tear" besides the information that you can't really trust the framerate anymore.

  2. The centering is not implemented for the frametime yet. That's the issue #74. But yea, that should be easily possible.

  3. I think it is right now? The FPS lines should be above the centering line. Or do you mean it should look the same as the horizontal lines that indicate the individual steps?

  4. Sure, I can add that.

I really can't promise when I'm going to get to implementing these features, but I really hope it won't take me till next winter to do that. I'll probably do 1-2 minor feature releases and won't do them all at once.

About 1) The info the viewer (and I) needs to see is --> when and --> where there is a tear in the picture. Imho my suggestion would show that, but maybe we have to thing of another solution.

about 3) The center line is above the frame graph as of now. In the picture that I made and attached in the last post, I just simulated how I want it to look like. As of now the middle line will still overlap the framerate graph.

thanks for your efforts. .

to 1. Yea, I probably have to make kind of a discord / forum about how to handle these different cases as I personally do not use trdrop for hobby/work to discuss that further.

to 3. Ah sure, that should be possible to do then.
