Project stalled - developers welcome!
HI guys, I'm pinning this issue to make you know this project is somehow stalled. I plan to pick it up and review issues & PRs for keeping it functional, but it will take some time (which I don't have plenty at the moment ;) ). If someone wants to join the team it's very welcome!
Since then, stay healthy!
C.
Hello @ciromattia
Without news from you, I've been maintaining a fork here with PR merged and sometimes, new changes (CI, Docker, linux distribution, appImage, changes in GUI, ...) https://github.com/darodi/kcc
I would be glad to help.
Best regards, D.
I wish I could try as a first-time python developer. Would be glad to learn the ropes on some small tasks.
@ciromattia
You were talking about a major rework in progress in v6. Is this still ongoing?
Hello @darodi, I checked your work and just made you a collaborator, welcome aboard! @paolovinoya if you want to clone the repo and submit your first PR you're welcome, feel free to checkout @darodi changes and work on remaining issues.
@darodi the rework in v6 was planned by @AcidWeb but his last commit was some years ago, I don't know if he's still around and working on it, so for now it's frozen, maybe he can tell you his plans for it.
Hi, KCC was my first major Python project and from the perspective of years I consider the current state of the code as terrible :-P Participation in this project got to the point where it stopped being fun and started being a second job.
During the pandemic, I started a major refactor that should culminate as V6 release but I didn't particularly have the will to finish it. And I don't have anything worth sharing.
So overall, I consider my work here over.
The build pipeline requires total rework and Windows binary should be digitally signed to migrate many QA issues. I would suggest switching to GH releases. When they will be in place let me know - I will redirect the domain to them.
Hello @darodi, I checked your work and just made you a collaborator, welcome aboard!
@ciromattia Thanks! I'll start merging PR soon, add changes from my fork and clean up issues.
@darodi Could I be a collaborator and help with closing open issues and releases? I feel bad for introducing a pdf order bug in v5.6.3 and leaving it released for months (and the fix has already been merged to master). I think my work in PRs and answering issues here and on mobileread speaks for itself. I only have Windows/macOS though, so won't be able to help with Linux.
@axu2 I wouldn't mind but I don't have access rights to add collaborators
** Edit ** nevermind... I see you have access now.
Just wondering, is Github Codespaces supported?
