Video uploads and playback are completely broken

Open Funtimes909 opened this issue 10 months ago • 2 comments

Describe the bug

Video files refuse to send or playback

Image

Top video was sent from cinny-web-git from the AUR, which has no problem with video uploads or playback Same file was sent on cinny-desktop-bin from the AUR, which does have this problem

The web version of cinny hosted at https://app.cinny.in does not have this issue All versions of cinny tested were 4.4.0-1

Reproduction

  1. Install cinny-desktop-bin from the AUR
  2. Login, try to send any video file in any room
  3. Try to watch any video sent in any room

Expected behavior

Videos would upload correctly and media would playback correctly

Platform and versions

1. OS: Arch Linux
2. Cinny Version: 4.4.0-1
3. Matrix Homeserver: funtimes909.xyz (Conduwuit)
4. Downloaded from: pacman (official arch repos)

Additional context

There is a log line of interest when starting cinny from the terminal: ** (WebKitWebProcess:921976): WARNING **: 23:40:31.749: The GStreamer FDK AAC plugin is missing, AAC playback is unlikely to work.

I have looked on the AUR at the package dependencies and seen that gst-plugins-good is marked as a dependency, after reinstalling this package, nothing has changed. I am wondering if this could be the cause?

Not sure if the same issue but Cinny-desktop freezes completely for me when I try to upload or play an mp4 video. Same warning in console.

Cinny v4.2.3. I'll try with a newer version later.

I've just reinstalled my desktop to a clean install of arch linux and the same issue with the missing GStreamer FDK AAC plugin is still occurring.
