In Windows CMD.EXE, Readline Resets Screen Color

My cmd.exe brings up black-on-white (white-background) windows, and running a readline client (Joker) causes everything after the prompt to be black, until typing onto it.

Other than the color differences, the behavior looks a lot like that described here:
