Do you think contacting him about removing the app from the app store or adding a link to the project on the official website would be a bad idea?
I think, at this point, keeping the original name causes more problems than it solves. You don't need to hide the past, and the About window can always mention and link the original project. Lots of forked open-source projects do this, and you can even brand something like Mastonaut NG (Next Generation)
I mean, you're the maintainer, and you can always choose not to bear this burden. However, what I see on Reddit is that most people believe the last "official" version is the latest one available. These people are mostly individuals who have some knowledge in technology
