French translation
French translation in progress: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/5a651aedd207f06ee21434ec551801ff Are the translation ported upstream? There are a number of strings without any context, so I don't know how to translate them properly
Hi, thanks for your efforts. I should tell you that currently only strings in the front-end will actually work. Strings that come back from the C backends, e.g. status bar text, custom type dialog and its error messages, etc. will not currently be looked up there. In summary I tried to introduce that feature, I got some crashes (principally #1) (and didn't have good translations for the app anyway) so I turned it off. Feel free to try switching it back on and see what happens! But just so you know, that's an issue that needs properly addressing, we need to be sure it's stable, before a release goes out with that switched on.
I think game rules must be properly translated in the first place. What's the right way to do that? Please advise
The right way to do that is to first solve the problem referred to in my comment above (the crashes), to ensure there is a usable infrastructure in the code to allow translations of the strings coming from C. I'm afraid that writing the actual translated texts before then would really not help, because they cannot be used and will only go stale in the meantime. I don't currently have any ideas how to solve those crashes. It's not an easy problem.
