Random disconnects from MySQL database server

When using a remote MySQL database, I'm getting random disconnects every 5-10 minutes. No particular pattern to it, the connection just fails and I start getting error messages whenever trying to use the database until I close and reopen the database. Network is completely stable, sub-100ms connection to the database server. Other monitoring and mysql clients to the same server remain stable.

Errors are of the form: MySQL server has gone away QMYSQL: Unable to execute query

I get this as well but only happens when I leave it idle for little.
