Document expected test results

Are the expected test results documented somewhere I’m missing? Right now, some produce output, some don’t, most (but I think not all) of those that produce output say PASS. It looks like these mostly rely on assert(); is that reliably true?

I’m testing on a new platform and I’m like to know how I can tell all is well.
