Add a minimum time for subtitles

I'm trying to have word level subtitles that still linger after the word is said. There's a ton of small gaps in my subtitles and it's pretty distracting. I want to still have subs for each word, but also have them not disappear so quickly. Would it be possible to add a feature that makes it so there's no gaps?
