Personally, I would not use the key related code for anything. This is barely maintained for long time. We can integrate a fix if you want to propose one.
I would like to see it is valid solution. I believe syncing main-net with Aleth up to the DAO fork is still doable.
I think we can accept a change now that would replace all cpp-ethereum to Aleth in file headers (the comments about the license). What do you think @gumb0 @halfalicious ?
