Perl on Windows
Hi, I love the script. I am going to use it for a community & schools based project to build the city of Plymouth in Minecraft. Originally I did the work of your script (almost) manually but the scale is off and it just created a plain green landscape full of plain green buildings. Your script offers much more potential.
My problem is, the script runs fine on my Macbook Air with maps of up to 5km square. After that it just locks. I really need to get it to run on Windows as my PC is new, has 16GB or Ram and a i7 processor. Do you work solely on Mac? Do you recommend a particular Windows Perl set up? I have tried a few but I just can't get it to work. I realise I haven't given you much but I need to render a 40Km square area and I don't think the Macbook is up to it.
Hiya. I've been considering some longer term ideas and one of them is the ability to set up a map and then build it region by region, so if it crashes you can restart it, or even add additional regions later. (A region is 512x512 blocks in a file)
For now I think Cygwin is what you're looking for. You'll need to set it up with perl and curl.
Let me know how you get on. I work for the University of Southampton and while this is a hobby project it's still good outreach to connect young people to programming & data etc.

Update :)
Thanks to help from a local developer, Cygwin / Perl / Curl successfully installed on Windows 10 machine. Reasonably impressive increase in speed and very stable. 46km square map of Plymouth currently rendering. We reckon it'll take about 25 hours.
I am currently re-rendering smaller areas for offline work in the 5 schools I work with. I'll be showing a new bit off tomorrow to a teachers' conference.

Great script. Thanks for the work.
I had the same issue as you, having created a not-quite 1:1 scale model of a street in my home town of Ventor; http://ventnor.totl.net/
