weird UI in cubescape-qt using qt5.9

On windows, d5452daac0e46305f08b2ba62282ade335042524 (master as of reporting) using Qt5.9 fails to provide a UI as shown in: wiki.examples.cubescape-qt

Instead the following happens (no high dpi display was used, nor any windows scaling): image

Maybe Qt added some new flags we have to enable since this version. We should investigate.
